Creating has always been a part of my life in one form or another,
but not until I was introduced to silversmithing in the fall of 1996
did I know what it was like to have a passion in what you are doing.
To take a form, a simple stone from a piece of rock and cut it,
smooth it and polish it to a high shine creating a work of art,
which I would love to take credit for, but the real credit goes to God
for creating something of such beauty.
My inspiration for sure, has been my husband Jim,
who encourged me so much in all that I did
including my love for jewelry making.
He pushed me beyond my expectations into a world of creativity
that I had never known. He never failed to lift me up
and always showed great interest in my passion of making jewelry
because he too loved to design and create one of a kind pieces
of jewelry artwork. In January of 2007 Jim has gone to be with our Lord,
but his memory, his love of jewelry making and his encouraging words
that so inspired me will live on forever.
I am primarily self taught and am constantely
looking for new avenues of jewelry creating to follow.
I love both the designing and creating and am
always inspired in what I do by colors and shapes.
I specialize in one of a kind contemporary pieces and each piece
is completely handmade in my studio in Mobile, Al.
I become very bored creating the same piece over
and over again so I let each piece whether it be
the gemstone that I have cut, the beauty of the beads that I have
or the silver that I am working with, dictate in which
direction to go in. So much of the time I will start
off going with one idea and it will end in
an entirely different concept when I finish.
Silversmithing is definetly a passion. A passion
that is forever bringing excitement into my life .
I sincerely hope that everyone
has the opportunety to follow their dream
and find that one thing that brings them joy in
what they are doing, whether it be sky diving,
gardening, silversmithing or the many many things
that life has to offer. |
